In a gap in the ground there carried on a hobbit. Not a dreadful, filthy, wet opening, loaded with the closures of worms and a sloppy odor, nor yet a dry, exposed, sandy gap with nothing in it to take a seat on or to eat: it was a hobbit-gap, and that implies solace.

Composed for J.R.R. Tolkien's own kids, The Hobbit met with moment basic recognition when it was initially distributed in 1937. Presently perceived as an immortal exemplary, this prologue to the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, the wizard Gandalf, Gollum, and the dynamite universe of Middle-earth describes of the enterprises of a hesitant legend, an effective and risky ring, and the pitiless mythical serpent Smaug the Magnificent. The content in this 372-page soft cover version is in light of that initially distributed in Great Britain by Collins Modern Classics (1998), and incorporates a note on the content by Douglas A. Anderson (2001). Remarkable!
